I-12 at O’Neal now open after multi-vehicle crash closed eastbound lanes for 10 hours

UPDATE:

All eastbound lanes are now open on I-12 at O’Neal after a multi-vehicle crash late Wednesday night, closed the eastbound lanes for nearly 10 hours.

The crash happened just before 11:00 p.m., Wednesday, when two vehicles stopped abruptly causing a chain reaction involving four vehicles.

One of those vehicles was an East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Deputy. Two 18-wheelers were also involved.

DOTD crews worked for hours during the Thursday morning rush to clear the crash site and to clear debris from the 18-wheelers.

According to emergency officials, three people were taken to the hospital. Two are in stable condition, while the third is critical.

I-12 East remains closed past O’Neal Lane after a crash involving an 18-wheeler.

The crash happened just after 10:30 p.m. Wednesday.

As of 5:00 a.m. Thursday, crews were still working to clear the debris and reopen the interstate.
