PLAQUEMINE, La. (BRPROUD) – Iberville Parish leaders took a historic step on Tuesday night.
Parish leaders voted to remove a Confederate statue in Plaquemine.
The vote was unanimous and this means that the statue will be taken down and stored somewhere.
Iberville Parish councilmember Raheem Pierce said, “that monument represents hatred, bigotry, racism, oppression and depression. It will always be a complete insult to the descendants of former slaves.”
This vote came one day after the East Feliciana Police Jury decided to delay a vote on the removal of a statue outside of its courthouse.
