Iberville Parish kids treated to Christmas shopping spree

IBERVILLE PARISH, La. (LOCAL 33)(FOX 44)- It’s easy to get caught up in the lights and the trees during the holidays. But the Iberville Parish Sheriff’s Office knows that the season would never be complete without giving something back.

Dawn Lewis, a dispatcher for the sheriff’s office partnered up with 6-year-old Nylah jacobs for a Christmas shopping spree.

“It feels wonderful to give back to children,” Lewis said.

Nylah’s shopping cart was filled to the brim with toys all paid for with a $200 dollar gift card. All the money was donated by organizations and volunteers.

“She’s a sweet little girl she was excited to get gifts for her family and not just for herself,” Lewis said.

IPSO has a history of giving back on the holidays. In the past, officers have put together lists of toys and gifts for Christmas, but this year Sheriff Brett Stassi wanted to try something different.

“This time we wanted to have the kids and actually see their response.”

All the gifts were wrapped and hidden. The kids won’t see them under the tree until the week of Christmas after the sheriff’s office delivers them.
