BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — The Iberville Parish Sheriff’s Office is not “overlooking” those living in local nursing homes this holiday season.

On Wednesday, the Iberville Parish Sheriff’s Office decided to hand out 180 gifts to nursing home residents. They visited the Legacy Nursing And Rehabilitation Of Plaquemine and the Landmark of Plaquemine Nursing Home and Rehabilitation.

“We just want to make sure that these senior citizens have a Christmas and that they are not overlooked, and they are surely not overlooked by the Iberville Parish Sheriff’s Office,” said Sheriff Brett Stassi with Iberville Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Evelyn Bunch is a resident at the Legacy Nursing home in Plaquemine. “I think that’s wonderful” the sheriff’s office comes to her home,” said Bunch. “They always participate somehow but this is the best so far.”

The sheriffs and deputies go from door to door, at each home making sure to visit them all this holiday season.

Sheriff says some don’t have family or friends who visit them during the holidays. “Christmas means to me, our opportunity to be with family, and when they might not have a chance to be with their family, they can be with the sheriff’s office family,” Stassi says.

The Iberville Parish Sheriff’s Office wants to prioritize every Christmas by caroling and giving presents to their elders.
