Along busy highway one in Plaquemine.
“It’s a 5-lane road, 2 North, 2 South with a turn lane in the middle.”
Iberville Parish leaders say, one intersection is deemed dangerous.
“In the last 3 or 4 years, some 4 or 5 people were either hit or killed.”
Iberville Parish Sheriff Brett Stassi said, following a recent tragedy at the intersection of LA-1 and Luckey Street, he’s calling on DOTD to make changes.
“I happen to go out there to that scene that night and see and those people out there say Sheriff remember so and so killed right up the road from here and it just kind of came to me, look I just can’t sit here and do nothing, I have to do something” said Stassi.
Rodney Mallett with DOTD said, he hears about similar situations but this one is new.
“We have not officially received that letter, when we get it, we will with our traffic and safety grief they’re ready to step in and see. We’ll do a speed study, a social study, a crash history and see if there’s anything we can do to mitigate that situation if it’s deemed unsafe” said Mallett.
Until then, Sheriff Stassi said, be careful crossing the unlucky, Luckey Street.
“I’m asking the public to be aware, I’m asking the drivers that go through that area, pay extra precaution, stay under the speed limit and for God’s sake, please make sure you’re not impaired both driving and walking.”
