Ascension Parish Sheriff’s deputies arrested a man after  allegedly crashing into an APSO deputy  Saturday.

According to authorities, an APSO deputy was traveling east on Black Bayou Road in Gonzales when 40-year-old Jary Romero traveled through a red light at the intersection of Highway 44 striking the deputy’s unit Saturday night.

Authorities said the deputy suffered moderate injuries and was checked by Acadian Ambulance on scene, added Sheriff Wiley. His unit sustained major damage.

Deputies arrested Romero on scene and later found that Romero is an illegal immigrant.

Authorities charged Romero with first-offense DWI, disregarding signal light, and no driver’s license.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement has been notified and Romero is being held in the Ascension Parish Jail without bond.
