Impairment suspected after Livingston Parish man dies in fatal Ascension Parish crash, State Police reports

GEISMAR, La. (The Livingston Parish News) – A Livingston Parish resident died in a fatal head-on crash in neighboring Ascension Parish and impairment is suspected, according to Louisiana State Police (LSP).

The crash occurred in Geismar early Wednesday morning and it took the life of Robby Watts, 31, of Livingston.

According to Troop A Spokesperson Taylor Scrantz, LSP troopers “began investigating a two-vehicle crash shortly before 6 a.m. on LA Hwy. 30 west of LA Hwy. 73 in Ascension Parish.”

Scrantz said the crash occurred as Watts, driving a 2015 GMC Sierra, was driving east on LA Hwy. 30.

At the same time, the driver of a 2015 Chevrolet Silverado “was traveling westbound on LA Hwy 30,” according to the Louisiana State Police.

Investigators are still trying to determine why Watts crossed the centerline into the same lane that the 2015 Chevrolet Silverado was driving in and hit it head-on.

According to the Louisiana State Police, Watts was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Scrantz added that “impairment on the part of Watts is suspected, and a toxicology sample was obtained” for analysis.

The other driver involved in this crash was also not wearing a seat belt when the accident occurred and only suffered minor injuries.

The driver of the Chevrolet was administered a chemical breath test which did not show any signs of impairment, Scrantz said.

The investigation into this crash remains ongoing.
