Saturday night, Michael Colbert was walking with his friend when the unthinkable happened.
“All I hear is swish, boom. That was the impact of him sliding under the gate.”
Colbert said, he and Rudd were walking when a car involved in an illegal drag race lost control. He said, during Rudd’s final moments alive he became a hero.
“He risked his life to make sure I was alright” said Colbert.
He said, Rudd knew the dangers racing toward them and pushed him out of the way.
“I can’t take it for granted, knowing that any given moment in life like, just at the snap of a finger it can just happen.”
Dionne Harris said, she always knew her son was kind and had a big heart.
“He thought about somebody else before saving his life. He didn’t have to do it, but he did.”
She said, knowing her son did something so brave brings her comfort during her time of grief.
“He did something great. He really did” said Harris.
Colbert said, “By him doing that for me, he made me look at him differently. Not a random person just about to step aside for me because he thought he was safe.”
