Investigators on the hunt for arsonist

A family of four escaped an Iberville Parish house fire early Friday morning.

Authorities believe it was arson, along with five others, within blocks of each other that have happened since February.

“All these fires are intentionally set,” said Butch Browning, Louisiana State Fire Marshall.

People in the Point Pleasant community, off River Road, near White Castle were scared to talk. They’re nervous they could be the next victim after cars, sheds, and even a house have gone up in flames recently.

“I can tell you this some people know what’s going on here,” said Browning.

Browning believes all of the fires are related and stopped short of calling it a serial arsonist.

“In my opinion this is someone who psychology has a problem and they are not in fear of using fire as a tool,” said Browning.

Browning said nine investigators are working on the case and they need someone to say something.

“Many crimes are solved because of witness information and that what we have to have,” said Browning.
