DENHAM SPRINGS, La. (BRPROUD) – According to the City of Central – Government Notifications Page, “It’s happened again. 15 rescues in the Amite River associated with tubers from Tiki Tubing today, July 31.”
Rescuers were called to the Amite River on Saturday afternoon and one local viewer caught the arrival of one.
Livingston Parish Fire Protection District #5 stated that the rescues were made mostly due to stormy conditions.
The fire department stated there were eight rescues on the Amite River Saturday:
D5 rescue boat was dispatched to TIKI TUBING today to assist LPSO with the reacue of several stranded tubers. The weather was bad with heavy rain and lightning. LPSO and D5 where able to retrieve 8 ppl total,no injuries to any of the stranded tubers. D5 wants to remind everyone to be safe on the waterways and wear a life vest.
In June, the father of an LSU Baseball pitcher died in a tubing accident on the Amite River.
Last weekend, another person died at Tiki Tubing, this time it was an accidental drowning.
Sunday, July 31 marks the fourth time that authorities have responded to Tiki Tubing this summer.
