BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – With energy costs expected to increase this winter, it’s more important than ever to maximize the efficiency of your heating and air quality systems.

The good news is, you can start with an inexpensive DIY fix.

Here are some details on things you can do to start lowering your power bill.

Your furnace and central air are constantly working due to Louisiana’s unpredictable weather.
Entergy Communications Director, David Freese, says if you don’t like the recommended temperatures of 78 and 68, you should expect to pay nine percent more.

But you might be able to lower expenses by taking on some D-I-Y projects.

Freese mentioned one hack, saying, “Making sure your filters for your HVAC systems are changed according to the manufacturer’s guidelines. You can also make sure that vents are closed in rooms that aren’t being used.”

Fresse says the most important thing to remember is that less is best.

The less usage you cause, the better your power bill will be. “The more you can do to keep that air inside. It’ll help avoid taxing your HVAC system or making it perform more work than it needs to,” Freese explained.

But the most recommended way to combat the rising costs is to pay attention to what’s happening with the weather. “Customers really should just be cognizant of what the weather is throughout the week. Pay attention to their or their local their local news. Pay attention to weather reports and just plan out their week accordingly,” Freese continued.

By following the recommended indoor temperatures – like moving the dial up during the summer to let the A/C unit rest. And in the winter by leaving the temperature down to prevent the heater from constantly working.
