Experienced Baton Rouge journalist Jim Engster will speak at a Rotary Club meeting at noon Wednesday at Drusilla Place Catering.
Engster, an LSU alumnus who was inducted into the LSU Manship School Hall of Fame in 2012, hosts “Talk Louisiana” on NPR’s Baton Rouge affiliate, WRKF, and is the owner and president of Louisiana Radio Network, which provides a variety of statewide news.
Engster is also a political analyst for WAFB and hosts “Ask the Governor,” a monthly call-in show that allows listeners to speak with Gov. John Bel Edwards.
Engster’s journalism experience extends past the realm of radio, as he is a long-time featured columnist for and current president of Tiger Rag Magazine, which analyzes LSU football, baseball, basketball and track and field.
His column, “Statistically Speaking,” garners frequent comments from readers, including LSU insiders.
Engster received several awards over his broadcasting career. In 2008, the Public Relations Association of Louisiana named him Communicator of the Year, and in 2011, the YWCA of Greater Baton Rouge gave him the Racial Justice Award for his “tireless on-air advocacy of racial and social issues.”
