BATON ROUGE, La (BRPROUD) — Fathers on a Mission, F.O.A.M hosted a community employment and resource fair at Park Medial Academy on Saturday, Aug. 27.

Resources available will include resume assistance, on-site interviews, and men’s professional clothing donations. The LWC mobile unit will be on-site for applicants who need to create a resume, make copies, and apply for jobs.

When Gregory Charles Butler heard that Fathers on a Mission was hosting a job fair, he marked his calendar.

“Three weeks now that I have been waiting for this job fair. I walked over a mile to get here,” Butler said.

Several different companies and organizations set up booths, eager to recruit new employees. Executive Director of F.O.A.M., Levar Robinson, says there is a wide range of options.

“Different jobs ranging from degreed positions, all the way down to positions for people with a criminal record, so we want to remove all of the barriers,” Robinson said.

The Louisiana Workforce Commission mobile unit was parked right outside to help people with resources including resume building.

“The Louisiana Workforce is awesome. I mean this guy, he just took all this time to kind of help me out,” said Butler. “You know, I’m not really good at online stuff and being able to come to one spot and then go to a different place to fill out an application for work is a very good advantage for people.”

Robinson said helping the community find employment is his calling.

“I’m just trying to do my part, right, everybody has a part that they can play, and this was something God put in me for me to fulfill his purpose helping people any way I can,” Robison said.

The fair also provided professional clothing for men.

“Providing them that free opportunity is at least something that we can do to help them start off in the direction that’s needed” said Robinson.

Butler said he is applying to work at BREC, an opportunity he might not have known about if he hadn’t come.

“This is my first job fair that I have ever been to, and it was like I needed to come to this, and I am glad I did,” said Butler.

For employers with resources to share, F.O.A.M. asks that you to call at (225) 239-7833 to register! “No opportunity is too small or too big!”
