AMELIA, La. (BRPROUD) – Deonte D. Harris, 25, of, Gibson, was arrested after a traffic stop on Thursday night in Assumption Parish.

Harris was stopped on U.S. 90 after a deputy saw him commit a traffic violation.

The driver was subsequently questioned by the deputy who then requested that a K-9 come and check the vehicle for drugs.

“The K-9 conducted an open-air sniff of the suspect vehicle and alerted positive to the presence of illegal controlled dangerous substances,” according to the Assumption Parish Sheriff’s Office.

These items were uncovered during a search of the vehicle:

  • Suspected marijuana
  • Assorted drug paraphernalia

Harris was arrested and charged with Possession of Marijuana with Intent to Distribute, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Speeding – 84 MPH/70 MPH and Failure to Drive on Right Side of Roadway.

The 25-year-old remains behind bars on $10,000 bond.
