LDH: Children 17 and younger make up one quarter of COVID-19 cases on Monday, hospitalizations stay under 200

BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – New coronavirus numbers were released by the Louisiana Department of Health on Monday.

For the second day in a row, the number of COVID patients in hospitals remains below 200.  

The Louisiana Department of Health is reporting on Monday that there are 942 new cases of COVID-19 in the state.

LDH is also providing these up-to-date COVID-19 statistics:

  • 14 New Deaths
  • 14,699 Total Deaths
  • 765,296 Total Cases

Even as the COVID-19 vaccine is now available to kids between the ages of 5 and 11, LDH confirms that children 17 and under are the age group with the most COVID-19 cases on Monday.

LDH is reporting that all age groups are represented in Monday’s numbers.

A breakdown of those COVID-19 numbers by age group can be found below:

  • 26% of cases are among children ages 17 and younger
  • 14% are among ages 18-29
  • 18% are among ages 30-39
