LDH makes third vaccine available for anyone immunocompromised

BATON ROUGE, La (BRPROUD) The Louisiana Department of Health is making third doses available for people who have moderate to severe immune compromised systems.

This vaccine has been recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The CDC suggests that people with moderate to severe compromised immune systems receive an extra dose of mRNA.

The third dose is available for anyone who is fully vaccinated with an mRNA vaccine.

Below is a list of people who are also included in receiving an additional vaccine:

  • Organ transplant recipients who is taking medicine to suppress immune system
  • Anyone receiving active cancer treatment for tumors or blood
  • Recipients of a stem cell transplant within the last two years or taking medicine to suppress immune system

CDC recommends that the additional dose of of mRNA vaccine be given at least four weeks after the second dose of either Pfizer or Moderna.

LDH says that the additional dose could help prevent serious and life-threatening cases within the population.
