Energy bills are skyrocketing in Louisiana this summer.
According to Demco energy company, Louisiana experienced record high temperatures in the spring, which got local residents off to an expensive start to the summer season of electricity payments.
“The temperatures go up and the usage on our homes and businesses go up as well. Mainly because 40-50% of our homes energy usage can be from cooling and even heating your home in the winter time,” said Demco Manager, David Latona.
Latona believes another reason for this increase in the summer time is children are home from school.
More family members coming and going, which means doors are opening and closing more often than they would during the school year.
To reduce electric payments, customers can use window covers and fans to cope with the heat and reduce the amount of air conditioning needed to keep their homes comfortable.
Another way to make sure you are not over spending is to check your cooling system’s efficiency. Demco recommends an annual air conditioning check.
“That check entails cleaning of the coils, and also you keep your filters clean inside the home, that helps the unit run most efficiently as well,” said Latona.
Demco has a mobile app, which can be downloaded on Android or iPhone. The app helps customers pay their bill and review their usage.
