A Baton Rouge man with a traumatic brain injury is beating the odds. Benny DiChiara is finding his way back through music. NBC Local 33’s Crystal Whitman has more on his life lyrics.
“We knew something was wrong. We had to get to the hospital. We got to the hospital. It was immediately CT scans and MRI’s,” says DiChiara.
It was a moment that changed everything for Benny DiChiara . “The only place I could bleed was into my face so the left side of my face, the whole side was just bruised. I just bleed out there so that was an interesting thing. I spent two or three days in the hospital and I don’t remember basically anything,” says DiChiara.
In 2015, a fall left DiChiara with a severe brain injury. Not long after, symptoms began to show, making it difficult for him to play music.
‘To go through something so traumatic as losing three and a half months of my life and again, people have gone through way worse things but for me personally, to turn that around and say here is something I want you to do with the gifts that I have given you, It is a huge calling that I don’t take too lightly,” DiChiara said.
Now, DiChiara says he is trying to stay positive, by collaborating with his band, ‘Empowered,’ as they prepare to release a new album.
DiChiara says he hopes by continuing to work on the new album, he can inspire others to overcome adversity.
“People have different things in their lives that they go through. For me, it was a brain injury. But if he can take me from that and bring me to what is going on right now, in my life and all the positive things…. what he’s doing in my life, he can do that for anybody,” said DiChiara.
Empowered is set to release their new album on Saturday, September 14th. If you want more information on where to buy it, click here: http://www.rockin4jesus.com/live
