BATON ROUGE, La.(BRPROUD) – With Tropical Storm Cristobal likely to impact Louisiana this weekend and into next week, local parishes are making sand available for residents.

East Baton Rouge Parish is providing sand and bags at these BREC sites:

  • BREC Airline Highway Fairgrounds – 16072 Airline Highway           
  • BREC Alsen Park – 601 Old Rafe Mayer Road 
  • BREC Cadillac Street – 6117 Cadillac Street       
  • BREC Doyles Bayou Park – 7801 Port Hudson-Pride Road
  • BREC Flannery Road Park – 801 S Flannery Road      
  • BREC Hartley-Vey at Gardere Park – 1702 Gardere Lane      
  • BREC Lovett Road Park – 13443 Lovett Road  
  • BREC Memorial Stadium – 1702 Foss Street    

EBR residents are asked to bring your own shovel and be ready to fill your own sandbags.

The City of Zachary released this information which contains where and when you can fill up sandbags:

In preparation of Tropical Storm Cristobal, The City of Zachary will open a free, self-serve sandbag filling location starting at 9 a.m. on Saturday, June 6th. The sand and bags will be located at the Zachary Youth Park, 1650 Mt. Pleasant Road in the northeast corner of the front parking lot. This service is only available to Zachary residents. Each resident will be allotted 3 bags per exterior door, with a maximum of 10 bags per household. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, please bring your own shovel to fill the sandbags.

Ascension Parish has pre-filled sandbags available at various places throughout the parish.

Wilkinson said, “more than 40,000 pre-filled sand bags are available in C-Cans at the following
locations:”

The Department of Public Works will also make available loose sand and bags at these locations:

St. John the Baptist Parish sandbag sites are currently open.

The parish asks that you bring a shovel and fill your own bags.

If you are unable to shovel sand, there are pre-filled sandbags for elderly and the disabled:

  • Each day through Saturday, June 6, 2020 (8:00a.m.- 4:30p.m.)

  • 10 bag limit for prefilled.

The Town of Sorrento asks that you bring your own shovel.

The City of Baker is making sandbags available at these locations:

Beginning Thursday, June 4, (This location will be accessible Thursday, Friday and Saturday)

• City Hall 3325 Groom Rd.

Beginning Friday, June 5, 2020 at 10:00 a.m.:

  • City of Baker Department of Public Works at 1507 Mississippi St (Residents must remain inside of their vehicles at all times, provide their driver’s license showing Baker residency and there is a limit of 10 bags per vehicle.)

Additional locations outside of Baker where sand and sandbags may be obtained are:
