BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – When 8-year-old Deangelo noticed his father had became ill while driving in Ascension Parish, he immediately grabbed his father’s cellphone to notify his mother and to get help.

Deangelo’s father, who has diabetes, was having issues with his sugar levels and exhibited stroke-like symptoms, according to St. James Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies.

The St. James Parish Sheriff’s Office had received two calls regarding Deangelo’s father — one was to report a single-vehicle crash, and the other was a medical call.

Deputies from that sheriff’s office and from the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office later arrived on scene, as did Deangelo’s mother.

Deputies noticed Deangelo was emotional and scared after the incident, so they gave him a Barran’s Bear to help him calm down and to ensure everything was alright, according to a Facebook post from Barran’s Bears.
