BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – ESports is growing in popularity as local tournaments have popped up this year.

That growth continues with the announcement of a new ESports Program at J. K. Haynes Charter Schools.

According to J. K. Haynes Charter Schools, Inc., “The ESports Program is the vehicle to
introduce students to STEAM career paths, as well as, teach them the soft skills they need
in life and in the workplace.”

So what will the ESports Program focus on?

  • Developing programming skills
  • Developing logical and critical thinking skills
  • Assisting students in maintaining positive mental health
  • Exposing students to careers involving technology

“Our ESports Program will begin by teaching our students as early as Kindergarten logic,
critical thinking, and maintaining positive mental wellness. We are super excited about
the ESports Program. For our students to be recruited and exposed to STEAM careers in
such a fun, engaging environment as early as elementary school is groundbreaking,” says
Kimberly K. Haynes, Director at JKHCS.

On Tuesday, there will be a celebration at the school on Elm Grove Garden Dr. beginning at 10:30 a.m.

That celebration is going to include a ribbon cutting and reception.
