BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – The Baton Rouge Fire Department was called to the scene of a reported blaze at the Good Shepherd Baptist Church on Friday morning.

Firefighters arrived at 5:30 a.m. and found “smoke coming from the church,” according to the Baton Rouge Fire Department.

Firefighters immediately went to work putting the fire out with the help of seven total units, four pumpers and one ladder.

BRFD says, “They made entry and found fire in the pulpit and baptism area.”

Thanks to the efforts of the Baton Rouge Fire Department, the fire did not spread from that area of the church.

It took firefighters 35 minutes to extinguish the fire.

The church sustained $150,000 in damages.

Fire investigators are still working to determine what started the fire.

According to the Baton Rouge Fire Department, the “Louisiana State Fire Marshal’s Office brought a K-9 unit to assist Baton Rouge fire investigator.”

EMS, BRPD, Entergy and the Louisiana State Fire Marshal’s Office assisted the Baton Rouge Fire Department at the scene.
