Local fire department mourns the loss of public servant

West Baton Rouge Parish Fire District 1: "One could say he lived his life to serve others."

PORT ALLEN, La. (BRPROUD) – 72-year-old Joe Howell lived a life of service and the local community benefitted from it.

West Baton Rouge Parish Fire District 1 is sending their condolences to anyone who knew this public servant.

Howell accomplished a lot including these career milestones listed below:

  • In 1975, started career in law enforcement
  • Taught at LSU Fire Academy
  • Volunteered at Port Allen Fire Department
  • Worked at the West Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office

According to West Baton Rouge Parish Fire District 1, Howell “was also a supporter of MDA’s Fill The Boot Campaign.”

A memorial service is scheduled for Wednesday, October 6 at the Port Allen Community Center.

The memorial service will begin at 4 p.m. and end at 6 p.m.
