Local Harley Davidson rider dies after motorcycle strikes pickup truck

GONZALES, La. (BRPROUD) – A deadly crash took place in Ascension Parish during rush hour on Wednesday night.

A 56-year-old Prairieville man was riding on a 2005 Harley Davidson Sportster when the motorcycle hit a 2010 GMC Sierra.

This deadly crash took place around 5:30 p.m. on LA Hwy 44 north of US Hwy 61.

Prior to the accident, the Harley Davidson was heading south on LA Hwy 44.

According to the Louisiana State Police, “For reasons still under investigation, as the motorcyclist approached stopped traffic, he failed to stop and struck the rear of a 2010 GMC Sierra.”

The motorcyclist died at the crash scene.

The Prairieville man was wearing a DOT approved helmet at the time of the crash.

The driver of the 2010 GMC Sierra was wearing a seat belt and did not sustain any injuries as a result of this crash.

Investigators are awaiting toxicology results from both drivers.

Louisiana State Police are withholding the name of the motorcyclist until next of kin are notified by Troopers.
