BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – The Baton Rouge Fire Department was called to a reported fire around 3:20 a.m. on Christmas Eve.

“Firefighters arrived on scene to find fire coming from two windows of the home,” according to the Baton Rouge Fire Department.

At the time of the fire, there were six people in the home.

BRFD says, “One adult and five children had made it out safely.”

Firefighters immediately went to work putting the fire out with the help of seven total units, four pumpers and one ladder.

Fire was located in the kitchen area and firefighters were able to contain the fire to this section of the home.

The fire was extinguished in around 20 minutes.

Fire investigators concluded that the cause of the fire was accidental.

“Something was left unattended on the stove,” according to the Baton Rouge Fire Department.

Along with smoke and water damage, the home sustained $120,000 in damages.

EMS, BRPD and Entergy assisted the Baton Rouge Fire Department at the scene.

“The displaced occupants will be staying with a relative,” according to the Baton Rouge Fire Department.
