BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – A 1980s musical fantasy film starring the late Olivia Newton-John and Gene Kelly in his final role is coming to a local stage this fall, according to the Recreation and Park Commission for the Parish of East Baton Rouge (BREC).

BREC’s Independence Park Theatre will present Xanadu Jr. in October of 2022.

Audiences will be whisked from reality into a musical that tells the story of a beautiful Greek muse named Kira who leaves her heavenly dwelling for Earth. Once she’s terrestrial, Kira meets a struggling artist named Sonny and inspires him to create the world’s first Roller Disco. Their partnership results in both fun and chaos.

BREC is inviting parents to register their children to audition for roles in the upcoming production.

Kids between the ages of 9-17 can try out for the musical. They’re asked to prepare a 90-second package that includes a memorized Broadway standard song and a memorized monologue

Auditions will be held on Saturday, September 10 from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. at BREC’s Independence Park Theatre (7800 Independence Boulevard, Baton Rouge, LA 70806).
