BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – A 23-year-old man is behind bars in connection with the shooting death of 29-year-old Gary Fielding, of 3368 Crestaire Dr.
Trenton Taplin, of 4106 Sherwood St. is alleged to have to shot Fielding and a 21-year-old woman on Monday afternoon.

BRPD says, Fielding passed away at the shooting scene and the young woman was taken “to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.”
The shooting happened around 3:15 p.m. on Fairfields Ave., according to the Baton Rouge Police Department.
The suspect in this case was able to leave before police arrived on scene.
Uniform Patrol Officers were able to locate and arrest Taplin at a later time.
Taplin is facing these charges:
- 1st Degree Murder
- Attempted 1st Degree Murder
The suspect is currently in the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison and there is no word on bond at this time.
