Local man killed in head-on collision, BMW goes up in flames on Magnolia Beach Rd.

DENHAM SPRINGS, La. (BRPROUD) – The Louisiana State Police is investigating a deadly crash that took place on Magnolia Beach Rd.

Clayton Smith, 46, of Greenwell Springs, was killed around 9 p.m. on August 16 after his BMW hit a Ford F-250 head-on.

The BMW burst into flames after colliding with the truck.

Prior to the crash, “Smith was traveling eastbound on LA Hwy 64 in a 2002 BMW 745,” according to the Louisiana State Police.

The Ford F-250 was heading towards the BMW on the other side of LA Hwy 64.

LSP says, “Smith crossed the centerline into the opposing lane, which resulted in the BMW striking the Ford head-on.”

The 46-year-old died at the crash scene.

Investigators do not know if Clayton Smith was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.

According to the Louisiana State Police, “the driver of the Ford was properly restrained and sustained moderate injuries.”

Investigators are awaiting toxicology results from both drivers.
