BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — Thanks to a $1 million appropriation from the Louisiana Legislature, Maurepas and Holden high schools will be able to install lighting on their baseball and softball fields, allowing for evening-time games next year.
Those schools are the only high schools in the parish that don’t have lighting on their campus’ fields, according to Livingston Parish Public Schools spokesperson Delia A. Taylor.
State Rep. Buddy Mincey said it will cost around $300,000 for each campus’ fields to have lights.
“These schools serve small communities that do not have the tax base that other communities have,” Mincey said. “But they have nurtured strong programs that enjoy wide support. We are hopeful that this investment would further strengthen these programs and create even greater interest.”
