BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — It’s the season of giving and the 100 Black Men of Greater Baton Rouge are in need of your assistance to help young African American men find their purpose.

100 Black Men are participating in 225GIVES, a campaign to help give funding to local nonprofits.

The organization’s Executive Director Dadrius Lanus said it is his life’s mission is to help young Black boys who grew up just like him.

“It took me to get out of that environment and see new things and then come back and understand what it takes in order to rebuild our community,” said Lanus.

Through the 100 Black Men of Greater Baton Rouge, he’s doing just that.

“We’re trying to raise money to send 50 African American young Black men that come from environments and communities that look like these so we can send them not only on a college tour but on an educational tour,” said Lanus.

During 225GIVES their goal is to raise $65,000, hoping to show young Black boys an entire world awaits them.

“Put our students, our young Black males inside of environments that don’t look like the ones that they come from. If you ask anyone across this community do they live inside of a depressed neighborhood that’s African American and Black, majority of them will tell you yes they do,” said Lanus.

225GIVES is a weeks-long campaign with the final day being a 24-hour online fundraising event, uniting the capital region in support of nonprofits.

Lanus said this event is important to the community and giving back is what it’s all about. He said, “us working together as a community, as a whole to fix a lot of these problems that we’re having.”

He is hoping the community can be generous to help the 100 be a catalyst to empower African American boys to reach their full potential.

“We’re asking our community as a whole to help us get there, help us to change these young African American, Black males lives,” said Lanus.
