BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — The 100 Black Men of Metro Baton Rouge are making spirits bright this holiday season. The nonprofit focuses on mentorship and this Christmas, they hope to make an impression that lasts a lifetime.

On Thursday, the nonprofit spent the afternoon walking through neighborhoods and knocking on doors to spread a little holiday cheer by delivering gifts to families.

“I thought they were at the wrong door, I’m looking like, ‘Who is this? Did someone pull our name or something?’ but it was really surprising and a blessing,” said Baton Rouge resident LaTonya Johnson.

The 100 Black Men said this initiative is more than just giving away toys and is a way to show the community they are here and are always willing to help.

“For them and the people inside our community what it says is, you have community partners that are right here on the ground that care about you. Not just when things are bad, but also when we know that you need us the most,” said 100 Black Men of Metro Baton Rouge Executive Director Dadrius Lanus.

He said this moment also comes full circle.

“It is paying it forward because the 100 did the same thing for me when I was a kid,” said Lanus.

The people who received the gifts said it truly feels like the season of love.

“It’s always a blessing to be a blessing and always expect the unexpected,” said Johnson.
