18 parishes approved for SNAP benefits

BATON ROUGE, La (BRPROUD) – SNAP residents living in certain parishes that have been impacted by Hurricane Ida will receive replacement benefits.

The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program recipients who live in the mentioned 18 parishes will be given benefits following a waiver approval by the U.S. Department of Agriculture Food and Nutrition Services.

 The benefit is 55% of each household’s monthly proportion for August will automatically be loaded onto recipients’ SNAP EBT cards on Saturday, Sept. 11. The value of the replacement benefit will be the amount of lost food purchased with SNAP benefits.

The 18 parishes are:

  • Ascension
  • Assumption
  • East Baton Rouge
  • East Feliciana
  • Jefferson
  • Lafourche
  • Livingston
  • Orleans
  • Plaquemines
  • St. Bernard
  • St. Charles
  • St. Helena
  • St. James
  • St. John the Baptist
  • St. Tammany
  • Tangipahoa
  • Terrebonne
  • Washington

SNAP recipients in other parishes who lost food bought with with SNAP benefits due to a power outage from Hurricane Ida can request benefits by submitting a completed and signed SNAP 38 form to DCF.

The form can also be printed to be mailed to DPC, P. O. Box 260031, Baton Rouge, LA 70826-9918 or faxed to (225) 663-3164.

Recipients can also go in-person.

The power outage must have been 24 consecutive hours or more and documentation from the recipient’s utility company verifying the power outage must be provided.

Tuesday, Sept. 28 is the deadline for requesting replacements.
