BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — The 19th District Judicial Court announces the award of $700,000 to create a Veterans Treatment Court in East Baton Rouge Parish.

The four-year grant is from the U.S. Department of Justice, Bureau of Justice Assistance through the Veterans Treatment Court Discretionary Grant program.

Veteran Treatment Courts were created to give veterans a chance to get treatment for substance abuse or mental health diagnoses. In cooperation with the Southeast Louisiana Veterans Health Care System and multiple local service providers, veterans who participate will receive support and resources for any needs.

Once the Veterans Treatment Court begins, the Honorable Ronald R. Johnson will preside over the Court. The Court will complement two other specialty courts: the David O’Quinn Pre-Trial Diversion and Recovery Program and Adult Recovery (Drug) Court.
