LAPLACE, La. (BRPROUD) — The St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office says a 21-year-old man accused of a road rage shooting on I-10 faces attempted murder charges.
SJSO deputies responded to the alleged shooting on the interstate at around 1 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 19. The suspect, Kaleal Laurent of LaPlace, was apprehended on the southbound side of Belle Terre Boulevard.
Laurent told authorities that he became upset when another driver in an SUV on the interstate kept changing lanes, which caused him to swerve into the median. According to SJSO, Laurent fired two shots as the victim tried to pull away, then the victim’s vehicle stopped and Laurent stopped to fire more shots in the SUV’s direction.
SJSO said there were no injuries.
Laurent faces two counts of attempted second-degree murder, aggravated criminal damage to property and illegal use of weapons or dangerous instrumentalities. His bond was set at $342,500.
