BATON ROUGE, La. (LOCAL 33)(FOX 44)-The results are in for the District 16 Senate Race recount. Republican candidate Franklin Foil, takes the lead over Steve Carter.
After six hours of sorting and recounting, the commissioners for the Registrar of Voters, along with a couple candidate representatives were finally able to get to the bottom of the senate race.
Republican candidate Franklin Foil came out on top with 605 votes. His opponent, Steve Carter ended the recount with only 448.
On election night last Saturday, the paper ballots for the two Republican candidates were scanned twice ending with both Foil and Carter having 12,522 votes, prompting the recount. If those numbers remained the same after today’s recount, there would’ve been a historic three-way runoff between Foil, Carter, and Democrat opponent Beverly Thompson. The Republican vote would have been split between both Foil and Carter giving the Democrats a slight advantage. Now, only Thompson and Foil will be on the ballot come November.
