BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – The East Baton Rouge Sherif’s Office has arrested three men after they were caught on camera stealing catalytic converters.
Detectives began an investigation into catalytic converter thefts being committed by the same suspects who would allegedly target vehicles parked at residences and businesses across the parish. The sheriff’s office says that most of the thefts occurred between midnight and 6 a.m. The cars in the areas of Woodridge, Briarplace, Industriplex, Glenoaks, Long Farm, Sherwood Commons, Jefferson, and Airline were robbed sometime between April 29 and May 10.
Detectives were able to collect video surveillance that showed the suspects and a suspected vehicle at multiple locations where the thefts were reported.
On May 13, detectives were able to identify the suspected vehicle at Airline Highway and Prescott Road. They collected evidence that connected the suspects to thefts in several different places in Louisiana. During a search of the vehicle, detectives found several catalytic converters that had been reported as stolen in Alexandria, La.
The suspects have been identified as 21-year-old Darius Smith, 23-year-old Kenya Randall, and 30-year-old Terrance Mundy. They each have been booked on 25 counts of theft and one count of unauthorized entry of a business.
The sheriff’s office says that the suspects were linked to cases under investigation by the Baton Rouge Police Department, Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office, and Alexandria Police Department. They were booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison.
