NAPOLEONVILLE, La. (BRPROUD) — On Friday, July 1, the Assumption Parish Sheriff’s Office arrested a 51-year-old man on multiple felonies after a traffic stop.

Sheriff Leland Falcon said a patrol officer stopped Charles E. Jones, Jr., 51, for a traffic violation.

According to APSO, Jones became aggressive and tried to fight the on-duty deputy. Jones then had to be detained and taken into custody. Deputies discovered a bag the suspect threw under the vehicle. The sheriff’s office said the bag contained heroin.

Authorities said the K-9 unit was called to the scene to conduct a search of the vehicle where more evidence was found.

Officials said Jones was taken to the Assumption Parish Detention Center to be booked. During booking, Jones presented a bag and attempted to destroy the content. The sheriff’s office said officers were able to receive the bag, which was full of rocks of crack cocaine.

Jones was booked on charges of possession with intent to distribute crack cocaine, possession with intent to distribute heroin, taking contraband to/from a penal institution, obstruction of justice, resisting an officer, violation of a stop sign, turning movements and required signals, and possession of alcoholic beverages in motor vehicles.
