BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – East Baton Rouge Parish Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome declared July 17 as Law Enforcement Memorial Day in remembrance of the officers who were killed in 2016.

Six years ago on July 17, Baton Rouge Police officers Matthew Gerald, Corporal Montrell Jackson, and East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office Deputy Brad Garafola were killed in the line of duty during an ambush attack on Airline Highway.

We honor those who lost their lives or were injured six years ago today. I proclaim a special Law Enforcement Memorial Day in their honor for Baton Rouge and East Baton Rouge Parish. Remember the words of Montrell Jackson: ‘Don’t let hate infect your heart’

Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome
