On Saturday, April 13, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., the AARP Fraud Watch Network will host a Free Shredding and Unclaimed Property event at  Whole Foods Market, located at 7529 Corporate Blvd, Baton Rouge, LA 70809.

You can receive help with the following:

Free shredding—Attendees can begin spring cleaning after tax season by safely disposing of personal documents no longer needed. Consumers can bring up to 5 bags or boxes of documents to be shredded. Suggested items include: bank statements, old tax records, old mail, receipts with identifying information, or anything that contains personal information. All items will be safely destroyed on-site by Shred-it, a mobile professional document destruction service.

Unclaimed Property—The Louisiana State Treasurer’s Unclaimed Property Division will be on-site to help attendees search the State’s unclaimed property list and begin the claims process. Unclaimed property comes from uncashed checks, forgotten refunds on utility deposits, or unknown insurance payments. Through the Treasurer’s Office, the State acts as custodian for the funds until they can be reunited with their rightful owners.

Other partners for this event include: The Louisiana Attorney General’s Office, and the East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office.

This event is FREE and open to the public.
