Acquaintances shoot each other in apparent burglary attempt, one dies, homeowner sent to local hospital

MAUREPAS, La. (BRPROUD) – The Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office is investigating a deadly shooting that took place earlier this week.

Deputies were called to Old River Rd. on Monday, May 17.

Sheriff Jason Ard says, ‘upon arrival, deputies located one male, with a gun shot wound to the torso, deceased on scene and another male in need of medical attention for ongoing medical issues.

The person who died has been identified as 47-yer-old Brian Luke.

The other shooting victim is the homeowner who has been identified as 75-year-old James Troy Millet.

Millet was taken to a local hospital and there is no word on his current condition.

LPSO says, “further investigation revealed the two males were acquaintances prior to this incident.”

Investigators have concluded that an altercation took place between the two men “leading up to deputies being called.”

No charges have been filed in this case.

The investigation into this deadly shooting remains open.
