BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – The first day of school for East Baton Rouge students is next week and the district is making a final push to ensure students have what they need.
On Saturday, the district will hold its ‘Back to School Bash’ at the Raising Canes River Center. At the event, they’ll be giving out supplies and hoping to help parents alleviate some stress when it comes to their kids returning to the classroom.
Inside the River Center preparation is underway for the bash.
The district’s Communication Director Letrece Griffin said the event is to make sure parents and families have the resources they need to prepare their students for the year.
“Whether that’s a free haircut, whether that’s school registration information, child nutrition, transportation routes,” said Griffin.
As more and more children are testing positive for Covid at an alarming rate, parents and schools are taking those additional safety steps.
“They will get those traditional items like pens and pencils, but of course hand sanitizer, hand wipes,” said Griffin.
This year some schools are going back to in-person learning at 100% capacity.
“Coming off the heels of this pandemic that’s still continuously going, we want to make sure that we have some type of sense of normalcy for our students. We know that they learn better if they’re in a face-to-face environment and so we want to try our best to provide that for our students,” said Griffin.
The Back to School Bash will be held on Saturday from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. Parents do not have to register, but the venue will only allow 50% capacity.
