BATON ROUGE, La (BRPROUD) – Southern University is ramping up security measures to ensure students, alumni, and fans enjoy homecoming.
Jaguar fans from all over the country are back on the bluff celebrating homecoming at Southern University.
During Friday’s pep rally, many people said it was “awesome” to be back in the yard.
The world-renowned Human Jukebox wowed the crowd.
“The Juke Box always have to be on point. We are no stronger than our last performance,” Director of Bands Kedric Taylor said.
Homecoming is a week’s long event and preparation takes time.
“We enjoy it. The excitement get your through it, the adrenaline is pumping and you know the fans are excited,” Taylor said.
Along with COVID-19 guidelines in place, the university is ramping up security measures.
“There will be two checkpoints to get on campus. You’ll have the hump mini dome regular access plus the swan access,” said Southern University Athletics Marketing Director Marlin Hollins.
Anyone who enters campus will be required to show a school ID. This includes drivers and passengers.
“We know it’s going to cause a bit of an inconvenience and we know it’s going to be some congestion. However, on the flip side of it we have to do what we need to do to keep all of these folks safe,” Southern Alumni Federation National President LaQuitta Thomas said.
As the fun-filled weekend commences, these Jaguar fans are hoping to do just one thing and let the good times roll.
“We are excited bruh, we’re back baby,” Southern alumn Anthony Kenney said.
