BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – The mayor’s office announced alternative routes drivers should be aware of in Downtown Baton Rouge due to Fourth of July festivities.

Due to Sunday’s events taking place at the Raising Cane’s River Center and along the Mississippi River levee — River Road will be closed to traffic from Florida Street to St. Philip Street. The closure will take place from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Baton Rouge government officials ask residents and visitors to plan ahead for an influx in traffic. Drivers need to consider alternate parking options on Independence Day. The River Center Garages on St. Louis Street are expected to fill up by 5 p.m., however, there will be alternative parking spaces throughout the area.

Officials said North bound travelers are encouraged to use the North Street (1D) and Convention Street exits (1B) while South bound travelers are encouraged to use the Laurel Street (1H) and North 9th/Capitol Park (1G) exits.
