GONZALES, La. (BRPROUD) – Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office (APSO) is helping promote two scholarships that will provide assistance to Louisiana students.

The first scholarship is funded through Louisiana Sheriff’s Honorary Membership Program. The scholarship can be up to $500 and will be awarded to graduating high school students from each parish where the Sheriff is an affiliate of the program.

The Dawn Shivers Memorial Scholarship can be up to $1,500 and is in honor of the former APSO employee who passed away in 2013. Graduating seniors can also apply for this scholarship.

Both scholarships are due by April 1 and must be submitted to the Sheriff of the parish of the applicant’s permanent Louisiana residence. The scholarships are not loans. They will be awarded to help with rising tuition and other related expenses in higher education. Winners will be announced in May.

Applications are being provided to the high school counselors, and can also be picked up from the sheriff’s office in Donaldsonville and Gonzales. Ascension Parish applications can be mailed to APSO at 828 S. Irma Boulevard in Gonzales.
