ASCENSION PARISH, La (BRPROUD) — A corrections officer was terminated after video surveillance within the jail circulated on social media on September 2.

According to Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office (APSO), Corrections Officer Matthew Hall used his cell phone to allegedly record surveillance video of an altercation between inmates and ended up circulating on social media. Officials say the recording was disseminated to non-authorized personnel which is a violation of the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office Policy.

“Our Corrections Officers are challenged every day to keep our communities safe. I commend the men and women of the Ascension Parish Jail Division who are dedicated to the safety and welfare of our inmate population and safety and security of our faculty.” – Sheriff Bobby Webre.

Hall was employed with APSO for 9 months.
