ASCENSION PARISH, La. (BRPROUD) — The Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office has entered an agreement with the parish government to take over jail operations and maintenance.
Ascension Parish Government officials said the sheriff’s office is capable of handling the jail’s maintenance as it already staffs the facility.
“As the warden of the Ascension Parish jail for 16 years, I know how important it is to maintain an efficient and safe jail for corrections officers, medical staff, attorneys, visitors, and inmates. This is long overdue, and I thank Parish President Clint Cointment and the Ascension Parish Council for their commitment in making this major step towards improving our parish jail,” stated Sheriff Bobby Webre. “The Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office has always had a good working relationship with Ascension Parish Government, and by entering into agreement to transfer the responsibilities of upkeep and maintenance to me, I commit to the citizens of Ascension Parish to develop a more holistic approach to jail operations.”
“Working with the Sheriff’s department is another example of how government can truly serve the people it represents,” said Parish President Clint Cointment. “The Parish had been maintaining the jail facility, but we recognized not only the need for action but also the opportunity to work with our fellow agency. Being President of this great parish is a responsibility I do not take lightly. Any time I can identify situations that we can come together on to achieve greater results and efficiency, I am eager to make those choices.”
