BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – Authorities say an armed robber was killed during a home invasion Monday night and others were injured.
“I was very shocked and hurt,” Mary Wilson, someone who lives in the neighborhood where the shooting took place, said.
Wilson can often be found sitting on her porch watching cars go by and waving at her neighbors. This is something she’s done for years but has become uneasy about it.
“What is the world coming to,” Wilson said.
The shooting happened on the 900 block of West Mckinley said. Authorities say one man is dead and three are injured. According to a representative with the Baton Rouge Police Department, 20-year-old Marcus Hayes Jr. was allegedly committing an armed robbery. Officials say Hayes died at the scene of the crime.
Wilson says she’s shaken up because it could have been her house that was robbed and her life torn apart.
“People shouldn’t be trying to break in on people, poor people that’s trying to survive,” she said. “We trying to survive out here we don’t need nobody breaking in on us.”
A few homes down, Dwight Arceneaux says at times it seems his once quiet neighborhood has become anything but.
“I was very disappointed,” he said.
Authorities say around the same time as the armed robbery, police were also dispatched to a nearby location where they found a wounded individual believed to be involved. Residents say they hope this crime comes to an end.
Anyone with information related to the shooting is urged to contact BRPD at (225) 389-4869.
