GONZALES, La. (BRPROUD) — The Gonzales Police Department arrested an 18-year-old suspect connected to an armed robbery on Wednesday afternoon.

According to GPD, two victims were approached around 2 p.m. at a local shopping center by an armed black male, demanding their vehicle. The victims complied, and they were able to contact authorities.

An Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office deputy spotted the stolen vehicle and attempted to stop it. A vehicle pursuit was encountered, leading deputies back into the City of Gonzales through residential areas. The suspect then crashed into a home on the corner of Orice Roth and Darla Street.

The suspect has been apprehended after a foot pursuit entailed. The suspect has been identified as Ricky Williams, Jr., 18, of Gonzales.

Officials say Gonzales Middle School was placed on lockdown for precautionary measures, due to the school’s proximity to the incident.
