PORT ALLEN, La. (BRPROUD)- Hundreds lined up Tuesday morning in West Baton Rouge Parish to roll up their sleeves and receive their one shot Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine.

Arbor Family Health and the Louisiana Department of Health partnered up to host a mass vaccine site at the West Baton Rouge Parish Multipurpose Riding Arena.

“The sooner we get to haven a large proportion vaccinated, the sooner we get back to our normal behaviors. It’s hard to think back before covid, how things used to be. So our goal is to get above 80 percent vaccination rate to start herd immunity,” Dr. Michael Ramagos said.

Some West Baton Rouge residents say this mass vaccine site was necessary since the parish only has three location to receive their dose.

“It’s kind of hard to find where to go and where to get the vaccine at, so this helps out a lot,” Fitz Gerald Collins, vaccine recipient said.

A total of 440 COVID-19 vaccines were distributed.

“It’s absolutely phenomenal, the turnout from all demographics to come out and get their vaccine,” Ramagos said.

“The extra effort to get the vaccine is going to save lives,” Brian Thompson, vaccine recipient said.
