GONZALES, La. (BRPROUD) — The Team of Dreams Ascension League received a generous $10,000 check to help finish ballpark construction.

The City of Gonzales accepted the check from the Baton Rouge State Fair Foundation’s Worthy Cause Grant on behalf of Leadership Ascension’s Team of Dreams.

Baton Rouge State Fair Foundation Chairman Greg Edwards said the board “jumped in without hesitation” to support Leadership Ascension.

The grant will go to constructing restroom facilities at the Field of Dreams ballpark located on Irma Boulevard.

The baseball league is scheduled to begin playing in the spring of 2022. Officials said registration for the spring is now open. The baseball league is open to all youth and adults within the parish and surrounding areas, according to City of Gonzales officials.

Anyone interested in participating, volunteering or needing more information is to contact City of Gonzales Recreation Director Lance Kohan at 225-354-6243, or register online at
